Dumka: Minor Tribal Girl Raped After Being Lured from Weekly Market
A horrifying incident of sexual violence has shaken the community in Dumka, Jharkhand, where a 15-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped multiple times on Monday. The crime occurred after the victim attended a weekly fair with her aunt and an acquaintance, Vijay Murmu, a man in his early thirties from Deoghar.
Details of the Crime and Police Response
According to the police complaint, the girl had gone to the fair with her aunt and Murmu, spending about three to four hours there. Around 4 pm, as they were returning home, her aunt stopped at a shop for snacks and instructed the girl to proceed ahead with Murmu, promising to follow in a toto. Instead of taking her home, Murmu diverted the motorcycle to a secluded spot where two unidentified youths were waiting.
The accused allegedly held the girl captive for several hours, raping her multiple times and threatening to kill her if she resisted. The role of the other two men during this time remains unclear, as it is not detailed in the FIR. Around 11 pm, Murmu dropped her off at a junction with another accomplice, reiterating threats to kill her and dispose of her body if she reported the crime.
Aftermath and Investigation Efforts
The traumatized girl reached home late at night and informed her parents about the entire ordeal. On Tuesday, she accompanied her family to the police station to lodge a formal complaint. Police have since launched a search for Vijay Murmu and are investigating the involvement of the other men.
An officer-in-charge stated, "The complainant was medically examined at the local hospital, and attempts are on to nab the accused." The case highlights ongoing concerns about safety for tribal communities and the effectiveness of law enforcement in rural areas.
