Tragic Fog-Related Accident Claims Life of Punjab Resident in Dwarka

A devastating road accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday on the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Dwarka, resulting in the death of a 55-year-old man from Punjab. The victim, identified as Chhaju Singh from Channuwala village, was travelling in a taxi to drop his son at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport when the tragedy unfolded amidst heavy fog conditions.

Chain Collision on Airport-Bound Stretch

Police authorities reported receiving a PCR call about the accident at UER-II near Jharoda Kalan in the early morning hours. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a multiple-vehicle collision on the stretch leading from Jharoda towards IGI Airport. Initial investigations revealed that a taxi bearing Punjab registration plates was the last vehicle involved in what appears to be a chain-reaction collision.

The taxi was carrying five occupants including the driver when it rammed into other vehicles due to severely reduced visibility caused by dense fog. Chhaju Singh, who was seated in the taxi, sustained critical injuries in the impact. He was immediately rushed to Tarak Mehta Hospital for emergency medical attention but was declared brought dead on arrival by hospital authorities.

Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Delhi Police have confirmed that the postmortem examination of the deceased is currently being conducted. Further legal proceedings will be initiated based on the findings of the investigation and medical reports. The accident highlights the persistent dangers of driving during Delhi's winter fog conditions, particularly on high-speed corridors like UER-II that connect to the international airport.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the challenges faced by commuters and transportation services during Delhi's foggy winter mornings. The stretch where the accident occurred is frequently used by airport-bound traffic, making such weather-related accidents particularly concerning for both local residents and travelers.

Police authorities are continuing their investigation into the exact sequence of events that led to the multiple-vehicle collision. The case underscores the importance of extreme caution and reduced speeds when navigating Delhi's roads during periods of poor visibility, especially in the early morning hours when fog conditions are typically at their worst.
