Bhopal: Ex-Convict Murders 'Guru Sister' in Brutal Stabbing Before Suicide

In a horrifying and tragic incident from Purvi Nishatpura in Bhopal, a man who had recently been released from prison after serving a full sentence for the murder of his own three children approximately 18 years ago has allegedly committed another heinous crime. The accused, identified as Pritam Singh Kushwaha, reportedly stabbed his 'guru sister' to death in a brutal attack before ending his own life by jumping in front of a speeding train.

Details of the Gruesome Attack

According to Gautam Nagar police officials, the victim was Durga Kushwaha, a 50-year-old homemaker and wife of bus driver Dalchand Kushwaha. The family resides in Gali No 2 behind Hanuman Temple in Purvi Nishatpura, though they originally hail from Sagoni village in Tendukheda, Narsinghpur district. Police reports indicate that the accused attacked Durga with a knife, inflicting a total of 13 stab wounds—nine on her chest and four in her abdomen—in what appears to have been a frenzied assault.

Sequence of Events Leading to Tragedy

Police investigation reveals that Pritam Singh Kushwaha had been living at Durga's house for about a year following his release from Narsinghpur jail on January 26, 2025. Having come from the same native village, he considered Durga his 'guru sister' and had been pushing a vegetable cart in the locality to earn a living. However, tensions arose when Durga's family recently began pressuring him to vacate their home, which allegedly angered him significantly.

On the fateful day, Durga's husband had left for Balaghat with his travel bus, while both of her sons were at work. Taking advantage of the empty house, Pritam reportedly took Durga to a nearby under-construction building in the afternoon and carried out the stabbing. After committing the crime, he locked the house from the outside and fled the scene.

Discovery of the Crime and Subsequent Suicide

Around 3 pm, Durga's son Arun returned home and, unable to find his mother, went to the construction site with his wife. Finding the front door locked from inside and the rear door locked from outside, he broke in and discovered his mother's blood-soaked body. Meanwhile, the accused had made his way to the railway tracks near Nishatpura station, where he threw himself in front of a speeding train and was run over.

Police Investigation and Background

Gautam Nagar SHO Mahendra Singh Thakur provided detailed information about the incident, confirming that Pritam Singh Kushwaha had previously been convicted for murdering his three children—aged 13, 10, and 3 years—approximately 18 years ago and had served his complete sentence before being released. The relationship between the accused and victim, described as 'guru sister,' suggests a spiritual or mentorship connection that tragically turned violent.

This shocking case has raised serious questions about rehabilitation of former convicts and the circumstances that can lead to repeat offenses. The Gautam Nagar police continue their investigation into the precise motives and any additional factors that may have contributed to this double tragedy.
