Four Recently Released Tihar Inmates Arrested for Ghaziabad Burglary Spree
Ghaziabad police have apprehended four men who were recently released from Tihar jail, connecting them to a coordinated series of burglaries targeting residential properties and jewelry shops across the city. The suspects allegedly regrouped immediately after their release from the high-security prison, where some had been incarcerated for previous theft-related offenses.
Series of Burglaries Across Multiple Locations
According to police investigators, the criminal gang carried out multiple burglary attempts between February 1 and February 5, striking at both residential properties and commercial establishments. The first reported incident occurred on the night of February 1, when a group of burglars broke into a bungalow located in the Raj Nagar area while the homeowners were away.
The perpetrators successfully made off with a small locker containing important documents and a passport. Homeowner Ashwani Chaudhary discovered the theft upon returning the following day and promptly filed a formal complaint at the Kavi Nagar police station, initiating the investigation.
Jewelry Store Break-in Attempts Foiled
On February 5, police received another urgent complaint regarding an attempted break-in at two jewelry showrooms situated on Ambedkar Road. Officers reported that the group of seven men managed to break the lock of one showroom around 3 AM and were actively attempting to cut through chain locks on the rear door of an adjacent store.
Alert neighbors noticed the suspicious activity and immediately alerted local authorities. The suspects fled the scene before managing to steal any merchandise, but police registered a formal robbery case based on the attempted break-in. Later that same night, authorities received information about another successful burglary at a locked flat within the SPS Apartment Society in Sahibabad.
In this incident, the suspects allegedly stole significant quantities of gold jewelry, silver items, and cash before escaping in a white Ertiga vehicle. The coordinated nature of these crimes suggested a well-organized criminal operation targeting valuable assets across different parts of the city.
Investigation and Arrest Details
ADCP Piyush Kumar Singh explained that CCTV footage collected from multiple crime scenes, combined with eyewitness accounts describing seven men involved in the incidents, helped investigators establish that the same criminal gang was responsible for the entire series of thefts. The breakthrough came on Tuesday when a specialized crime branch team successfully arrested four suspects near an underpass close to Sahibabad railway station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Roshan Yadav (26), Nimish Aggarwal (34), Raghu Kumar (42), and Aman Saxena (28). During subsequent questioning, Aggarwal allegedly revealed to police investigators that he had previously worked as a sales manager at one of the jewelry stores targeted in the break-in attempt, but had been dismissed from that position.
He then secured employment at a different jewelry showroom in Delhi, where he allegedly stole ornaments and was subsequently jailed for those offenses. While serving his sentence in Tihar jail, he came into contact with Raghu Kumar and other associates who shared similar criminal backgrounds, according to police officials.
Criminal Network and Recovery Efforts
After being recently released on bail, Aggarwal allegedly struggled to find legitimate employment and decided to regroup with his fellow former inmates to plan and execute the burglary spree. Police have confirmed that some gold jewelry has already been recovered from the accused individuals, and intensive efforts are currently underway to trace and apprehend the remaining gang members who remain at large.
The case highlights the challenges of reintegration for former inmates and the potential for recidivism when support systems are lacking. Ghaziabad police continue their investigation to determine the full extent of the criminal network's activities and recover all stolen property.
