A loud explosion rocked the area near the Baddi police station in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district on the morning of Thursday, January 1, 2026. The blast caused significant damage to nearby structures but, in a fortunate turn of events, resulted in no injuries or casualties.

The force of the explosion was substantial, with its impact felt across a radius of 40 to 50 metres. Window panes of several buildings, including the investigation room of the police station itself, were shattered by the blast. The explosion also left a small hole at the epicentre, indicating its intensity, and caused partial damage to a few trees in the vicinity.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Superintendent of Police Vinod Dhiman clarified that the blast occurred on land situated behind the police station and was not on the police department's property. He noted the presence of a large garbage accumulation at the site. "At this stage, we cannot rule out the possibility of splinters or some explosive material being involved," SP Dhiman stated.
Police Response and Investigation Launched
The loud sound triggered panic among local residents, who rushed towards the site. Police personnel responded swiftly, cordoning off the area to restrict public movement and ensure safety. Senior officials conducted a preliminary inspection, and additional forces were deployed as a precautionary measure.
The area has been secured for a detailed forensic examination. Experts from the State Forensic Science Laboratory have collected samples from the blast site to determine the exact nature and cause of the explosion. "Fortunately, no one was hurt. The area has been secured, and forensic experts... have collected samples from the site for examination," confirmed SP Vinod Dhiman.

The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation to ascertain whether the explosion was an accidental event, perhaps related to the garbage dump, or if it was caused by an external explosive material.
