Family of Deceased Medical Aspirant Stages Protest at Jantar Mantar, Demands Justice
In a poignant display of grief and determination, the family of a medical aspirant, who died under suspicious circumstances at a girls' hostel in Patna, staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday. The victim's parents, who have consistently alleged a cover-up and expressed deep distrust in the Bihar Police and state administration, traveled to the national capital despite facing numerous challenges. They demanded an impartial investigation into the tragic case, highlighting their unwavering quest for justice.
MP's Arrest Fails to Deter Protest as Family Vows to Continue Fight
The protest at Jantar Mantar was originally expected to draw support from Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, the Independent MP from Purnia. He had been vocal about the case, meeting the family and raising demands for justice in Parliament. However, his arrest late Friday night in connection with a 31-year-old case prevented him from joining the demonstration. Undeterred by this development, the parents affirmed their resolve to continue their fight. "Pappu Yadav will not be able to join the protest, but we are going with the confidence that our daughter will get justice," they stated firmly.
Mother Alleges Bribery and Vows to Become a "Monster" for Justice
During the protest, the victim's mother made shocking allegations, claiming that she was offered money by the wife of the hostel owner. "I am a mother. I will become a monster to get justice for my daughter," she declared, emphasizing her fierce commitment to uncovering the truth. Reacting to the MP's arrest, she told TOI, "Pappu ji asked us to come with him to Delhi and protest for justice for my daughter. He consistently raised his voice for justice for my daughter. The government does not want my daughter to get justice."
Details of the Tragic Incident and Investigation Findings
The minor student from Jehanabad district, who was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), was found unconscious in her hostel room on January 6, shortly after returning to the hostel in Patna. She died on January 11 after spending several days in a coma at a private hospital. Initially, the police investigation pointed to suicide, citing traces of sleeping pills. However, the post-mortem report indicated evidence of possible sexual violence, and subsequent forensic analysis detected traces of semen on her clothes, further strengthening allegations of rape before her death.
State Government Recommends CBI Probe Amid Mounting Pressure
In the wake of mounting public pressure and the family's relentless advocacy, the state government formally recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case on January 31. This move marks a significant step towards ensuring a thorough and unbiased investigation, as the family continues to seek accountability and justice for their daughter.
