Faridkot police have cracked a chilling murder case, arresting a woman and her male friend for the alleged killing of her 28-year-old husband. The body was discovered on the rooftop of their house on the night of November 28.
Murder Plot Unraveled by Police
According to the authorities, preliminary investigations point to a premeditated crime. The victim's wife and her friend were in a relationship and allegedly conspired to murder him. The police arrested the wife on November 29. Her male friend, who was initially absconding, surrendered before a court on Wednesday, December 3. Both are now in police custody.
Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Pragya Jain confirmed the arrests. "A case of murder and criminal conspiracy has been registered at Sadar Faridkot police station under Sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 103 (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," stated SSP Jain. She added that the post-mortem report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death.
A Timeline of Deception and Death
The incident unfolded when the wife raised an alarm around 11:30 PM on November 28, claiming robbers had attacked their home. She later told neighbors she found her husband unconscious on the rooftop. However, the victim's family painted a different picture.
The family revealed that the wife had moved to Canada in 2019 and returned to India in November 2023 to marry the victim. After the wedding, she went back to Canada but was deported last year, returning to the village in January 2025. Interestingly, the male friend was also deported from Canada in 2018.
The victim's sister, a Canadian citizen, filed a police complaint stating her brother had expressed serious safety concerns. "My brother suspected that his wife was having a relationship with her friend and told the family that she was troubling him," she said. A cousin reportedly saw someone entering the house around 11 PM on the night of the murder.
Family Alleges Drugging and Strangulation
The victim's aunt made grave allegations, claiming that when she reached the house after the incident, the family pet dog was found in a drugged state. She alleged the wife first drugged her husband, and then, with her friend's help, strangled him. The victim's parents, who had moved abroad in March, rushed back to India after the murder.
The grieving family has not yet cremated the body, suspecting the involvement of more individuals and demanding a thorough investigation. The deceased worked for a private bank, and the family owns over 20 acres of agricultural land.
The police investigation is ongoing, with further details expected as the custody of the accused proceeds and the post-mortem report is finalized.
