Fatehabad Police's De-addiction Campaign: A Lifeline for the Lost

The Fatehabad Police's de-addiction campaign has emerged as a powerful beacon of hope, illuminating the path to recovery for numerous individuals trapped in the vicious cycle of substance abuse. In the heart of Haryana, this initiative is not just a program but a transformative force, reshaping destinies and restoring dignity to those who had lost everything to addiction.

The Descent into Darkness: Prem Kumar's Story

One of the most compelling success stories from this campaign is that of 38-year-old Prem Kumar, a resident of Rattakhera village in Ratia. Prem, who had passed Class X, once led a stable and content life, working diligently as an accountant to support his family. Known for his honesty and hard work, he had built a respectable future for himself and his loved ones.

However, a single misstep during a visit to Chandigarh with friends changed everything. Prem experimented with drugs for the first time, initially seeking temporary relief from life's pressures. What started as a casual indulgence soon spiraled into a deep dependency. The habit escalated rapidly, forcing him to rely heavily on prescription drugs to cope.

As addiction tightened its grip, Prem's life unraveled. He lost his job, and his financial condition deteriorated alarmingly. Domestic disputes became a daily occurrence, with tensions escalating to the point where his own children began to fear him. Despite his wife's persistent attempts to counsel him, addiction clouded his judgment, pushing him further into isolation.

The Breaking Point and Police Intervention

In a desperate bid to sustain his addiction, Prem became involved in procuring and selling drugs from Punjab. This illegal activity led to his arrest, resulting in nearly two years of imprisonment. Upon release, social stigma weighed heavily on him, isolating him from relatives, neighbors, and society at large. Physically, mentally, and emotionally shattered, Prem found himself at rock bottom.

The turning point came with the intervention of the Fatehabad Police's de-addiction initiative. Under the supervision of Sub-Inspector Sundar Lal, in-charge of the drug de-addiction team, the police regularly organized awareness programs and counseling camps in the Ratia area. Despite being emotionally exhausted, Prem's family refused to abandon him and approached Sub-Inspector Mahendra Singh for assistance.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, SI Mahendra Singh promptly informed senior officers. With the approval of the Superintendent of Police, Prem was admitted to the government de-addiction center in Ratia, marking the beginning of his journey toward recovery.

The Road to Redemption and a New Beginning

Through consistent counseling, medical treatment, unwavering family support, and empathetic police monitoring, Prem gradually reclaimed his life. His confidence returned as he realized that recovery was not just a distant dream but an achievable reality. Today, Prem stands completely drug-free, working in a factory and leading a peaceful, dignified life with his family.

Reflecting on his harrowing experience, Prem shared how addiction had turned life into misery for his wife and children. Yet, his wife's steadfast support throughout the ordeal became his anchor. "There was a time when I could not tolerate even a minor injury to my wife, but addiction made me forget my responsibilities. I now promise to protect and care for my family and never return to that dark phase," he said, his voice filled with determination and gratitude.

The success of Prem's transformation was recently celebrated when Fatehabad Superintendent of Police Siddhant Jain felicitated him, honoring his courage and resilience in overcoming addiction and embracing a new life. This moment symbolizes the broader impact of the police's efforts, showcasing how compassion and structured support can turn despair into hope.

The Fatehabad Police's de-addiction campaign continues to serve as a model for community-based rehabilitation, proving that with the right intervention, even the most broken lives can be mended. It stands as a testament to the power of collective action in fighting the scourge of drug abuse, one life at a time.
