Sonbhadra Court Delivers Life Sentence in Heinous Father-Daughter Rape Case
A court in Sonbhadra district has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to a man convicted of raping and impregnating his own 15-year-old daughter. The Special Judge presiding over cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Amit Veer Singh, described the crime as "extremely serious" and imposed an additional fine of Rs 1.5 lakh on the convict.
Swift Justice: Verdict in Just 35 Days After Charges Framed
Remarkably, the court delivered this punishment a mere 35 days after formal charges were framed against the accused. This expedited timeline highlights the judicial system's focused approach to handling such grave offenses against minors.
Case Background: Maternal Uncle's Complaint Leads to Investigation
The case came to light when the survivor's maternal uncle filed a complaint at the Chopan police station on October 27, 2025. He reported that his sister had passed away in March 2025, leaving her children in the care of their father. The complaint explicitly alleged that the father had sexually assaulted his minor daughter in April 2025.
Acting on this complaint, the Chopan police promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the 33-year-old man. The charges were filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the stringent provisions of the POCSO Act.
Investigation and Judicial Process
The investigating officer conducted a thorough probe, gathering substantial evidence that supported the allegations. Following this, a chargesheet was filed in court. On January 7, the court formally framed charges against the accused, setting the stage for the trial.
During the proceedings, the court meticulously reviewed statements from nine witnesses and examined all case-related documents. After evaluating the evidence, Special Judge Amit Veer Singh found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment under the POCSO Act.
Police Credit 'Operation Conviction' for Rapid Verdict
Circle Officer Randheer Mishra attributed the swift delivery of justice to the police department's robust investigation and effective prosecution efforts under 'Operation Conviction'. This initiative is specifically designed to combat crimes against women and children, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable without delay.
"This verdict sends a strong message that the accused won't escape justice," Mishra stated, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protect vulnerable segments of society and uphold the rule of law.
The case underscores the critical importance of legal mechanisms like the POCSO Act in addressing sexual violence against minors, particularly within familial settings, and demonstrates the judiciary's resolve to act decisively in such matters.
