Foreign Nationals Attempt Graffiti Trespass at Bengaluru Metro Depot

In a startling security breach, two men, believed to be foreign nationals, allegedly attempted to trespass into the Kadugodi Metro depot near Whitefield in Bengaluru on Thursday. Their reported objective was to draw graffiti on the metro coaches, raising concerns about depot security and vandalism.

Daring Trespass Attempt with Rope Ladder

The duo employed a rope ladder to scale the depot's nearly 15-foot-high compound wall. According to sources, they were carrying spray paint cans when security personnel on duty spotted them midway through their climb. Upon noticing the approaching guards, the two men quickly descended the rope ladder and attempted to flee the scene.

Local Intervention and Escape

The fleeing men were confronted by a local cowherd named Shivu and his friend. However, fearing the individuals might be armed, the locals refrained from physically apprehending them. Instead, they promptly alerted the security personnel stationed at the depot gates. Shivu later mentioned to reporters that the duo spoke in English, which he could not comprehend, adding to the mystery of their origins.

Police Complaint and Investigation Launched

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) filed an official complaint at the Kadugodi police station, stating that two unidentified foreign nationals had attempted trespassing. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in connection with the incident. A source involved in the matter emphasized that their exact intentions, nationality, ideology, and motives will only become clear after a detailed police investigation progresses.

Historical Context of Similar Incidents

Officials pointed out that this is not an isolated event. Similar incidents involving graffiti by foreign nationals have been reported in the past. Notably, in September 2022, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad detained four Italian citizens for painting graffiti on a Metro train parked in a depot in that state. That incident occurred just ahead of the service's inauguration by the Prime Minister, highlighting recurring security challenges.

At the time of the Bengaluru incident, a Namma Metro train was stationed inside the depot, though no damage was reported. The event underscores ongoing vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure security and has prompted authorities to review and potentially enhance protective measures at metro facilities across the city.
