Decorated Punjab Police Officer Bikramjit Singh Brar Elevated to Superintendent of Police Rank

The Punjab government has promoted Deputy Superintendent of Police Bikramjit Singh Brar, a highly decorated officer of the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP). This significant promotion was officially announced on Monday, recognizing his exceptional service and gallantry.

Promotion Based on Departmental Screening Committee Recommendations

The promotion was executed by the Punjab home department following the recommendations made during a departmental screening committee meeting held on April 23, 2025. Officer Brar is one of three Punjab Police Service (PPS) officers who have been elevated to the SP rank through this process.

The other officers promoted alongside him are Guriqbal Singh (direct recruitment 2017) and Sarvanjit Singh (direct recruitment 2016). Bikramjit Singh Brar himself was directly recruited as a DSP in 2018.

A Stellar Career Marked by Courage and Dedication

Bikramjit Singh Brar's journey in the Punjab Police began in 2002 when he joined as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). Through dedication and exemplary performance, he rose to the rank of Inspector before being directly recruited as a DSP in 2018. Interestingly, he had resigned on technical grounds in the same year he was recruited as a direct DSP.

His career is distinguished by numerous acts of bravery. He received his first President Police Medal for Gallantry in 2011 while serving as a Sub-Inspector for his actions against the notorious Rajiv Raja gang. This was just the beginning of a series of recognitions.

Five-Time Recipient of the President Police Medal for Gallantry

Officer Brar's gallantry awards highlight his crucial role in combating organized crime:

  1. 2011: Awarded for police action against dreaded gangsters of the Rajiv Raja gang.
  2. 2020: Recognized for the neutralization of three gangsters in Rajasthan, including Vicky Gounder and Prema Lahoria.
  3. 2021: Honored for neutralizing dreaded gangster Ankit Bhadu and rescuing a family, including two minor girls, held hostage in Zirakpur.
  4. 2024 (Republic Day): Awarded for neutralizing two shooters, Jagroop aka Rupa and Manu Kusa, involved in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
  5. 2024 (Independence Day): Recognized for the neutralization of three notorious gangsters, including Tejinder Singh aka Teja.

Instrumental Role in National and International Operations

During his tenure as AGTF DSP, Brar played a pivotal role in both domestic and overseas operations. His efforts led to the neutralization and arrest of numerous dreaded gangsters, smugglers, terrorists, and arms suppliers involved in organized crime networks.

Beyond the President's medals, his accolades include the Union Home Minister's Special Operations Medal in 2022 for providing actionable intelligence that led to the neutralization of gangsters Jaipal Bhullar and Jassi Kharar in West Bengal. He also received the Chief Minister's Rakshak Padak in 2023 and has been honored with 27 DGP commendation discs throughout his career.

A Legacy of Service: Following in His Father's Footsteps

Bikramjit Singh Brar comes from a family deeply committed to police service. His father, the late Baldev Singh Brar, was also a PPS officer who was martyred during terrorism in 1988 while serving as SP (Detective) in Patiala. Continuing this legacy, Brar's elder brother is currently serving as a senior PPS officer, holding the position of SSP, Vigilance, in Ludhiana.

This promotion not only acknowledges Officer Brar's individual bravery and dedication but also underscores the Punjab government's commitment to recognizing and rewarding exemplary service within its police force.
