Ghaziabad Man Taken Into Custody for Allegedly Assaulting Elderly Mother

A disturbing incident of domestic violence has come to light in Ghaziabad, where a 44-year-old man was taken into custody by police for allegedly assaulting his elderly mother. The case, which has shocked the local community, unfolded in the Sanjay Nagar area of Madhuban Bapudham.

CCTV Footage Reveals Shocking Assault

The incident was captured on a CCTV camera that had been installed in the 70-year-old woman's room by her daughter, who lives in the United States. The video footage, which has been accessed by authorities, shows the accused, identified as Nishant Thakur, entering his mother's room while she was lying on her bed.

The footage reveals a harrowing scene:

  • Thakur appears visibly agitated as he enters the room
  • He repeatedly hits his elderly mother while she is on the bed
  • The man drags his mother by the neck toward him
  • He pushes her back onto the bed and continues the assault
  • Thakur is heard shouting during the entire incident

How the Incident Came to Light

The assault was discovered when Thakur's sister, Nisha, who had installed the CCTV camera to monitor her mother's health remotely, noticed the violent incident on the camera feed. Concerned for her mother's safety, she immediately took action by sharing the video footage with neighbors and residents of their housing society.

"The sister, who lives abroad, had installed the camera specifically to keep an eye on her mother's well-being," explained a police officer familiar with the case. "When she saw what was happening, she quickly alerted people on the ground who could intervene."

Police Response and Legal Action

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kavinagar Suryabali Maurya confirmed that the police received the video evidence on Saturday. After reviewing the disturbing footage, officers from the Kavi Nagar police station promptly initiated legal proceedings against Thakur.

The police investigation has revealed several key details:

  1. The video evidence was handed over to authorities by members of the housing society
  2. Thakur has been taken into custody for questioning
  3. A formal case is in the process of being registered
  4. Further investigation is currently underway to understand the full context of the incident

The case highlights the growing role of technology in exposing domestic violence and elder abuse. CCTV cameras, originally installed for security and health monitoring purposes, have become crucial tools in documenting crimes that might otherwise go unreported.

This incident has raised important questions about elder care and protection mechanisms in urban households, particularly in cases where family members live abroad and rely on technology to monitor their loved ones' well-being.
