Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi Launches Rs 202.85 Crore Police Development Projects
In a significant move to bolster law enforcement infrastructure, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi presided over the e-Khatmuhurat (ground-breaking) ceremony for multiple projects totaling Rs 202.85 crore dedicated to the Gujarat Police. The event, held on Monday, marks a major investment in enhancing security and housing facilities across Ahmedabad.
Key Projects Unveiled for Police Modernization
The comprehensive development plan includes several high-value initiatives designed to upgrade police capabilities and living conditions. The flagship project is a state-of-the-art Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) building, set to be constructed at Chharodi in Ahmedabad with an allocation of Rs 47.98 crore. This facility aims to provide advanced technical resources for counter-terrorism operations.
Other notable projects launched are:
- A new police station at Bodakdev, costing Rs 33.49 crore, to improve local law enforcement coverage.
- Police housing and Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) quarters at the Amraiwadi Police Line, with a budget of Rs 74.62 crore, addressing accommodation needs for personnel.
- Additional police housing at Kagdapith, funded at Rs 39.68 crore, to support more families.
- Dog kennels and a training office at Saijpur Bogha, allocated Rs 5.74 crore, enhancing canine unit operations.
- Group-2 bungalows for the State Reserve Police (SRP) at a cost of Rs 1.34 crore, upgrading senior officer residences.
Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi's Vision for Enhanced Security
During the ceremony, Sanghavi emphasized the importance of these projects, stating, "Today is a golden day for the Ahmedabad Police and the ATS, because security and housing projects are going to be laid at a cost of Rs 202.85 crore in a single day." He praised the ATS as a "silent force" that works tirelessly around the clock to ensure citizen safety and deter threats.
Sanghavi highlighted the ATS's national achievements, noting its role in combating terrorism and disrupting radicalization networks online. He said, "Our ATS team has performed the best in the country in the fight against terrorism... The success of the ATS in exposing 'terror modules' that radicalise youths through online social media is essential to safeguard the future of the state." He also mentioned operations across multiple states, including Punjab, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, showcasing the force's extensive reach.
Commitment to Technical and Budgetary Support
The Deputy CM reaffirmed the state government's dedication to strengthening the ATS through both technical upgrades and financial backing. He described the new ATS building as more than just infrastructure, calling it a "centre equipped with world-class technical facilities" that will fortify Gujarat's security for years to come. Sanghavi added, "This system is being set up to give a befitting reply to those who are conspiring against the country."
