In a shocking incident that has rattled the Bilimora community in Gujarat's Navsari district, a woman was arrested for allegedly murdering her two young sons while they slept, claiming she was following commands from a dream entity. The tragedy unfolded late Thursday night in Maharaja Apartment in the Desra area.
The Horrific Night
According to police reports, the accused woman, identified as Sunita Sharma, allegedly strangled her four-year-old and seven-year-old sons while they were asleep in their bedroom. The incident occurred while her husband, Shivkant Sharma, was hospitalized with typhoid.
The situation escalated when Sunita then entered her father-in-law's room and allegedly attacked 62-year-old Indrapal Sharma with a glass, biting his hand and ear when he tried to escape. Indrapal managed to flee the apartment and alert neighbors, who immediately contacted the Bilimora town police station.
Police Intervention and Arrest
Officers arrived at the scene early Friday morning to find Sunita had locked herself inside the apartment with the children's bodies. "She refused to open the door," said Navsari Deputy Superintendent of Police B V Gohil, describing how police eventually had to break into the flat.
Police found Sunita in her bedroom near the bodies of her two sons. The children's bodies were sent for post-mortem examination while Sunita was taken into custody.
Disturbing Confession and Mental State
During questioning, Sunita allegedly confessed to the crimes and revealed disturbing details about her motivation. "She told us that somebody had been coming into her dreams for the last two days and told her that she had to sacrifice her two sons," DSP Gohil disclosed.
The police official added that Sunita believed that "later, all things would be normal in her life" after making the sacrifice for what she referred to as 'Pitrumoksh'.
Investigators noted that Sunita had taken a bath and was praying in her bedroom just before committing the alleged crimes. Police have taken her for psychiatric evaluation and found her to be mentally unstable. They plan to continue questioning her with a psychiatric doctor present.
The family, originally from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, has lived in Bilimora for about ten years. Shivkant Sharma works as a carpenter while Sunita is a graduate in Arts from Jaunpur. The incident has left the local community in shock as investigations continue into this heartbreaking tragedy.
