Gurgaon Dentist Booked for Alleged Sexual Harassment During Dental Procedure
In a disturbing incident from Gurgaon, a local dentist has been formally charged after a 31-year-old woman accused him of sexual harassment during a medical examination at his clinic. The case has been registered at the New Colony police station, sending shockwaves through the community.
Details of the Alleged Incident
The complainant, originally from Bihar but residing in Gurgaon for the past twelve years, reported that the harassment occurred on February 15 at the Pearl Dental Clinic located near Dev Samaj Public School. The dentist has been identified as Dr. Dheeraj Mehta.
According to the detailed police complaint, the woman had initially visited the clinic on February 9 for dental treatment. She was called back for a follow-up session three days later. On February 15, during what was supposed to be a routine check-up, the situation took a traumatic turn.
"I felt his intentions were wrong, and I even pressed his finger in protest," the woman stated in her official complaint, describing how she felt unsafe and violated during the appointment.
Witness Presence and Failed Intervention
What makes the incident particularly alarming is that the woman's husband was present at the clinic during the alleged harassment. "He started his treatment while his compounder was also there. He started touching me inappropriately, following which I held his hand and pressed his fingers," the victim recounted.
She explained that her husband, who had accompanied her, noticed her confronting the doctor and began recording the incident on video. Despite this, neither the compounder present in the clinic nor anyone else intervened to stop the alleged misconduct.
"The compounder didn't intervene either. I started crying, following which we returned to my house," she added, highlighting the lack of immediate support during the traumatic experience.
Aftermath and Police Action
Following the incident, the woman attempted to contact Dr. Mehta. "We wanted to record him, but he disconnected the normal call and called back on WhatsApp. I recorded him using another phone. He then apologized to me over the phone," she revealed.
Describing the accused, she stated, "He is in his 40s but is a shameful man. We are staying in Gurgaon along with our children for the past 12 years, but such a thing never happened to me before."
The emotional impact was severe. "I was so traumatized that I vowed to teach him a lesson and lodged a police complaint so that other women do not have to suffer the same," she emphasized, explaining her motivation for coming forward.
The woman formally approached the New Colony police station on February 16, the day after the alleged incident. Recognizing the sensitive nature of the allegations, authorities called in a female legal adviser to counsel the complainant and assist with the necessary legal formalities.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Based on the woman's detailed statement and subsequent counseling sessions, police have registered a formal case under Section 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This specific section addresses sexual harassment involving unwelcome physical contact and advances, carrying significant legal consequences for those found guilty.
The registration of the FIR marks the beginning of a formal investigation into the allegations against Dr. Dheeraj Mehta. Authorities are now examining all evidence, including the recorded conversations and witness statements, to determine the appropriate course of action.
This case has raised important questions about patient safety and professional conduct in medical settings, particularly concerning vulnerable situations where trust between practitioner and patient is paramount.
