A tragic hit-and-run incident in Gurgaon has resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman, identified as Riya, who worked as a salesperson at a showroom in Sahara Mall. The victim, originally from Bihar, was struck by an unidentified vehicle near the IFFCO Chowk Metro station late on Sunday night, according to police reports.
Police Response and Initial Findings
Authorities received an emergency call around 2 am on Monday, alerting them to an unconscious woman lying on the road near the busy IFFCO Chowk stretch. A police team promptly arrived at the scene and found the victim critically injured. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Initial investigations by the police suggest that the woman was hit by a vehicle whose driver fled the spot immediately after the collision. A police officer stated, "The circumstances indicate a road accident involving an unknown vehicle. The driver did not stop after the incident." The area was relatively deserted at the time, and no eyewitnesses have come forward so far.
Challenges in Identification and Legal Proceedings
The victim did not carry any identity documents, which complicated the identification process. Through sustained efforts, including coordination with her workplace and local contacts, police were able to identify her as Riya.
