In a tragic incident, a 33-year-old manager working for an outsourcing firm was discovered deceased at the base of his office building at Spaze IT Park in Sector 49, Gurgaon, during the early hours of Tuesday. Police authorities are currently treating the case as an alleged suicide, with a comprehensive investigation initiated to uncover the precise circumstances surrounding the event.
Details of the Incident and Initial Police Findings
Varun Shekhar, originally hailing from Jharkhand and employed with Sand Martin, was on a night shift when the unfortunate occurrence took place. Law enforcement officials reported receiving information around 4:30 AM after a security guard observed him lying motionless near the building structure. According to preliminary police statements, Shekhar's shift had concluded approximately at 3:30 AM. His colleagues commenced a search operation when he failed to appear for the office cab and could not be located anywhere on the premises.
Initial assessments by the police suggest that the fall likely transpired around 4 AM. A senior police officer disclosed, "CCTV footage retrieved from the building depicts Shekhar alone on the terrace around the time of the incident. No other individual was observed with him, even on the staircases leading to the terrace prior to the fall." The officer further emphasized that the footage is undergoing meticulous examination to verify all details.
Personal Background and Ongoing Investigation
Shekhar was married and resided in a rented accommodation in Sohna alongside his wife. Police authorities promptly informed his family following the incident. The officer added, "His family has not indicated any potential reasons thus far. Additionally, no suicide note was recovered from the scene or among his personal belongings. At this juncture, no foul play is suspected, but we are thoroughly verifying all possible angles."
The deceased's body has been dispatched for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Police officials stated that the autopsy findings, combined with forensic inputs and technical analysis of CCTV footage and mobile phone records, will be instrumental in reconstructing the sequence of events accurately.
Legal Proceedings and Additional Checks
Inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been formally initiated. Statements from colleagues, security personnel, and building management are being systematically recorded as part of the investigation. Investigators are also scrutinizing whether Shekhar accessed the terrace earlier during his shift to gather further insights.
