Gurgaon Man Strangles Wife to Death, Attempts to Mislead Family Before Fleeing Scene
In a shocking incident from Gurgaon's Khandsa area, a man has been accused of strangling his wife to death at their rented residence before attempting to mislead her family about the nature of the assault. The accused, identified as Sunny Dayal, allegedly waited for twelve hours after the killing before contacting his wife's brother with a fabricated story, only to flee the scene shortly afterward.
Twelve-Hour Delay and Deceptive Phone Call
According to police reports and family statements, the tragic event unfolded when Sunny Dayal allegedly strangled his 30-year-old wife Sheelu during what appears to have been another domestic dispute. Rather than immediately seeking help or reporting the incident, the accused reportedly waited an entire half-day before making contact with Sheelu's family.
At approximately 3 PM on January 29, Sheelu's brother Alok received a phone call from Sunny. During this conversation, Sunny claimed that he had merely assaulted Sheelu during an argument, deliberately downplaying the severity of what had actually occurred. This deceptive communication appears to have been a calculated attempt to mislead the victim's family about the true nature of the crime.
Family Discovers Tragic Scene
Alarmed by the phone call, Alok immediately alerted his sister Neeraj, who then dispatched their brother Kapil to check on Sheelu's wellbeing. Kapil, who works at an office in Sector 37, rushed to the couple's rented house in Khandsa.
Upon arrival, Kapil made the horrifying discovery of Sheelu's lifeless body lying on a bed inside the residence. The couple's two young children—a seven-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter—were present in the house at the time of the discovery. Notably, Sunny was conspicuously absent from the premises, having apparently fled shortly after his phone call to Alok.
Background of the Couple and Alleged Motive
Sunny Dayal, originally from Kanpur, and Sheelu, hailing from Auraiya, had been married for approximately eight years. Both worked as daily-wage labourers in Gurgaon, struggling to make ends meet while raising their two young children in the bustling city.
According to the complaint filed by Sheelu's brother Alok, Sunny frequently suspected Sheelu of having extra-marital affairs. These persistent suspicions reportedly led to regular arguments between the couple, which often escalated into physical violence. The family has alleged that this pattern of jealousy, suspicion, and domestic abuse ultimately culminated in Sheelu's tragic death.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Local authorities were promptly informed about the incident after Kapil discovered Sheelu's body. Police officials arrived at the scene and arranged for the victim's body to be sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
An FIR has been registered under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), reflecting the serious nature of the alleged crime. Law enforcement agencies have launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend Sunny Dayal, who remains at large following his disappearance from the crime scene.
The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about domestic violence in urban areas, particularly among migrant worker communities who often face additional pressures related to economic instability and social isolation. As the investigation continues, authorities are examining the couple's history of domestic disputes and the circumstances that may have led to this fatal escalation of violence.
