Tragic Suicide in Gurgaon: School Owner Leaves Note Blaming Wife and Friend
A 55-year-old man, identified as Shailendra Kumar Karan, allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Gandhi Nagar, Gurgaon, on Saturday. The victim, who operated a private primary school on the ground floor of his house, reportedly shot himself with an unlicensed pistol, according to police officials.
Post-Mortem Confirms Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound
The post-mortem examination, conducted on Sunday, confirmed that Karan's death resulted from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities noted that the origin of the illegal firearm used in the incident will only be clarified once his wife, Sujata, is taken into custody, as she is a person of interest in the case.
Suicide Note and Diary Recovered from Scene
Police recovered a suicide note from Karan's pocket and a personal diary from his house during their investigation. In the note, Karan explicitly blamed his wife, Sujata, and her friend, Kulbir Beniwal, for his decision to end his life. He expressed his inability to cope after his wife left him approximately two years ago, citing emotional distress and mental harassment.
Allegations of Mental Harassment Over Property Matters
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's brother, Nilender Kumar Karan, police stated that Sujata and Kulbir allegedly subjected Shailendra Kumar Karan to severe mental harassment concerning property-related disputes. The suicide note elaborated that Karan felt his home was being destroyed because of Kulbir's influence, according to police sources familiar with the investigation.
Background of the Marital Relationship
The couple did not have any children. A relative of the victim revealed that Sujata came into contact with Kulbir after joining a network marketing company. Following the alleged development of a relationship with Kulbir, she left Karan and began residing in a flat located in Sector 37, Gurgaon, which further exacerbated the victim's emotional turmoil.
Police Register Case Against Accused Individuals
Acting on the complaint filed by Karan's family members, the Shivaji Nagar police registered a formal case against Sujata and Kulbir Beniwal of Hansi. Both individuals have been booked under multiple legal provisions, including Section 108 (abetment of suicide) and Section 3(5) (act done by multiple persons) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as Section 25 of the Arms Act, which pertains to possessing, carrying, manufacturing, or selling illegal firearms, ammunition, or prohibited weapons without a valid license.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings Underway
A police officer confirmed that Karan's body was handed over to his brother and other relatives following the post-mortem examination. The officer emphasized, "We have registered the case and are conducting a thorough inquiry to apprehend the accused individuals." The investigation aims to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the suicide and the alleged harassment, with a focus on gathering evidence to support the charges against Sujata and Kulbir.
