Gurgaon: Two Men Arrested for Shooting Woman Over Marriage Proposal Rejection
Gurgaon: Men held for shooting woman who refused marriage

Police in Gurgaon have made a significant breakthrough in a shocking case of attempted murder, arresting two individuals allegedly involved in shooting a young woman after she refused a marriage proposal. The incident, which has sent ripples through the community, underscores the extreme dangers of harassment and obsession.

The Harrowing Night of the Attack

The violent episode unfolded in the early hours of December 20, near a club in Gurgaon where the 25-year-old victim, identified as Kalpana, was employed. According to the official complaint filed by her husband, Kalpana was targeted by a man who had been persistently pressuring her to marry him, despite knowing she was already married.

Around 1 AM that night, Kalpana managed to call her husband from the scene. She informed him that she had been shot in the stomach by a man named Tushar, a resident of Sangam Vihar in Delhi, and was being rushed to the hospital. Her husband immediately rushed from their home in Najafgarh to Max Hospital, where she was admitted.

A Pattern of Harassment and Prior Threats

Investigations revealed that this was not an isolated act of violence but the culmination of months of harassment. The prime accused, Tushar alias Jonty (25), had reportedly befriended Kalpana approximately six months prior and had since been obsessed with marrying her.

Kalpana, being committed to her marriage, had repeatedly turned down his proposals. The situation escalated about a month before the shooting when Tushar visited the couple's locality and created a disturbance. In a terrifying precursor to the main attack, he had even fired shots at their house, indicating a severe and growing threat.

On the fateful night, Tushar arrived at the club with an accomplice, Shubham alias Johnny (24). He confronted Kalpana one final time, demanding she agree to marry him. Upon her refusal, he allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot her.

Police Investigation and Arrests

The MG Road police post, under the jurisdiction of the DLF Sector 29 police station, was alerted after hospital authorities informed them about an injured woman. A police team reached Max Hospital and obtained her medico-legal report (MLR). Doctors declared Kalpana unfit to give a formal statement at that time, leading her husband to submit a written complaint.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered. In a coordinated effort, teams from the crime branch of Sector 40 and the Police Post MG Road launched a manhunt. Their investigation led them to Baraut in Uttar Pradesh, where, on December 25, they successfully apprehended both accused—Tushar and Shubham.

During interrogation, Tushar reportedly confessed to the police, stating that he shot Kalpana after she rejected his marriage proposal yet again. The police are now investigating the source of the firearm and the full extent of the conspiracy.

This grave incident highlights the critical issue of stalking and harassment faced by women, even in urban centers like Gurgaon. It raises serious questions about the safety of individuals at their workplaces and the mechanisms to prevent such targeted violence before it escalates to life-threatening levels.
