Gurgaon Teenager Severely Injured in Hit-and-Run by Speeding SUV
A distressing hit-and-run incident in Gurgaon has left an 18-year-old schoolgirl with severe injuries after a speeding SUV struck her in a narrow lane on Friday morning. The Class 11 student, identified as Vidhi, was walking to her school in Jacobpura when the black Scorpio vehicle allegedly hit her with tremendous force, hurling her several meters down the road.
Sequence of Events in Adarsh Nagar
The accident occurred around 9 am in the cramped lanes of Adarsh Nagar. According to the family's complaint, the SUV was being driven at high speed and in a negligent manner through the limited space available. After hitting Vidhi, the vehicle collided with a parked scooter before the driver fled the scene without offering any assistance or taking the injured teenager to a hospital.
Neighbors who witnessed the incident rushed to help the victim and immediately alerted the police. Vidhi suffered injuries to her head, hands, and legs, and briefly lost consciousness at the scene. She was initially taken to a private hospital but was later referred to Civil Hospital since it became a police case.
Family's Account and CCTV Evidence
Ujjwal, Vidhi's elder brother, revealed that a nearby CCTV camera captured the entire sequence of events. "The SUV hit my sister so forcefully that she was thrown far away. Instead of stopping, the driver fled after hitting a parked two-wheeler. Car parts were scattered on the road," he stated. The family further alleged that the accused driver had previously created disturbances in the same neighborhood lanes.
The CCTV footage reportedly shows the driver navigating the narrow lane recklessly despite limited clearance, with a parked car on one side and a two-wheeler on the other. Vidhi's father, Ramnath Sahu, who works for a private firm, described arriving at the scene to find his daughter bleeding profusely. "We took her to a private hospital first, but doctors asked us to take her to a government hospital for a police case. Later, we shifted her to Civil Hospital and lodged a police complaint," he explained.
Medical Condition and Police Action
Vidhi required multiple stitches to her head and continues to experience severe pain. Although she was discharged on Friday, her condition deteriorated, prompting plans to take her to a private hospital on Sunday for further treatment, including an MRI scan that has yet to be conducted.
Police acted swiftly following the incident, arresting the driver identified as Nikhil (19), a resident of Sihor village in Mahendergarh, within 24 hours. Sub-inspector Dharam Bir Singh confirmed, "After being informed about the incident around 9 am on Friday, we held the accused in less than 24 hours. He works as a driver and drove his employer's Scorpio at the time. The vehicle was recovered." The investigation remains ongoing to determine all circumstances surrounding the negligent driving and subsequent hit-and-run.
