Gurgaon Traffic Department Officials Suspended Following Surprise Inspection by DCP
In a significant disciplinary action, three zonal officials of the Gurgaon traffic department were suspended on Monday after a surprise inspection conducted by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan uncovered multiple violations of traffic rules and non-compliance with departmental orders across various parts of the city.
Inspection Reveals Critical Lapses in Enforcement Protocols
DCP Rajesh Mohan conducted unannounced visits to key areas including Daulatabad, Kapadiwas, and New Colony. During these inspections, it was discovered that the zonal officers assigned to these locations were failing to adhere to mandatory instructions regarding the use of body-worn cameras while conducting challan proceedings.
Officials from the traffic department emphasized that the implementation of body cameras during enforcement drives was made compulsory to ensure transparency and accountability in policing activities. The failure to comply with these directives was viewed as a serious act of indiscipline within the force.
Immediate Suspension Ordered for Non-Compliance
Taking strict note of these lapses, DCP Rajesh Mohan ordered the immediate suspension of three assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs): Suresh, Ramrichpal, and Satish. This decisive action underscores the department's commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding the integrity of traffic enforcement operations.
Additional Violation Uncovered During Inspection
Another significant violation came to light during the inspection. ASI Suresh, who was posted at Daulatabad Chowk, was found using a temporary number plate on his personal vehicle despite possessing a valid registration number. In response, the vehicle was challaned on the spot under the relevant provisions of traffic rules, demonstrating that enforcement applies uniformly to all individuals, including police personnel.
Departmental Message: Equality Before the Law
Senior traffic police officials clarified that this disciplinary measure was intended to send a clear message that traffic laws and departmental instructions must be followed by everyone, without exception. This includes police personnel who are entrusted with the responsibility of enforcing these very rules.
A release issued by the traffic police stated, "Any negligence, misconduct, or indiscipline at any level would invite strict action. Surprise inspections and enforcement checks would continue in the future to ensure discipline within the force and to improve the credibility of traffic policing."
Next Steps in the Disciplinary Process
Following the suspensions, departmental proceedings against the three officers will be initiated in accordance with service rules. This step ensures that the disciplinary process is carried out systematically and transparently, reinforcing the department's dedication to accountability.
The incident highlights the ongoing efforts by Gurgaon's traffic police to enhance professionalism and trust in their enforcement activities, setting a precedent for strict adherence to protocols across all levels of the force.
