Police in Gurgaon have arrested two individuals following a violent incident of vandalism linked to a dispute over money recovery. The event, which unfolded on Wednesday night, saw a house and a catering office targeted with stones and their windows smashed.
Violent Night Over Debt Recovery
The accused have been identified as Ranbir (41) and Vikash (22), both residents of Makdana village in Charkhi Dadri district. According to police reports, they, along with associates, arrived late at night at the premises on Basai Road. Their objective was to recover money, and they initiated their attack by pelting stones at the catering office and a nearby residence belonging to the complainant, Deepak.
The assailants did not stop at throwing stones. They attempted to force their way into the buildings, trying to break open doors. During the confrontation, they also issued death threats to the occupants. "My family and I are facing a serious threat to our lives. These people are spreading terror in the name of money recovery," Deepak stated in his police complaint.
Root of the Conflict: A Disputed Rs 10 Lakh Loan
The investigation revealed that the conflict originated from a financial transaction. Deepak, who runs the catering business, had borrowed Rs 10 lakh from accused Ranbir on September 3, 2024, at an agreed interest rate of 10 percent. The complainant claimed that he later repaid the principal amount of Rs 10 lakh.
However, the situation escalated when the accused prepared an interest bill amounting to a staggering Rs 18 lakh and continued to demand payment. This exorbitant demand and subsequent harassment led to the violent confrontation on Wednesday night.
Police Action and Recovery
Following the complaint, police acted swiftly and arrested the two accused. They also seized a Thar car allegedly used by the men to travel to and from the scene of the crime. "The vehicle was used to reach the complainant's house and office during the incident," confirmed a police officer involved in the case.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite two young men being present inside the house at the time of the attack. The police have registered a formal case at the New Colony police station and are continuing their investigation, including identifying other associates involved in the vandalism.
This incident highlights the severe consequences of aggressive and illegal money recovery practices. It serves as a reminder of the legal avenues available for dispute resolution and the strict action law enforcement can take against intimidation and property damage.
