Gurgaon Delivery Executive Assaulted and Robbed in Pre-Planned Attack
In a disturbing incident in Gurgaon, a Zomato delivery executive was brutally assaulted and robbed of his motorcycle by four youths, including three minors, late on the night of January 25 in Sector 84. The police have since taken swift action, arresting one adult and apprehending three juveniles in connection with the crime. Authorities have also successfully recovered the stolen motorcycle and the mobile phone used to orchestrate the offence.
Details of the Assault and Robbery
According to the complaint filed at the Kherki Daula police station, the victim was on night duty and had picked up a food order from Sector 82. When he arrived at Sector 84 to deliver the order, four youths approached him to receive it. Instead of accepting the delivery, they launched a violent assault on the executive, leaving him injured before fleeing with his motorcycle. The incident highlights the risks faced by delivery personnel working late hours in urban areas.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Based on the victim's complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They conducted a thorough investigation, scanning the area, gathering technical inputs, and making local enquiries to identify the suspects. On January 28, the police apprehended all four accused from Sector 84.
The adult suspect has been identified as Abdul Amin, a 20-year-old resident of Kamardanga village in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal. He was produced before a city court on Tuesday morning, while proceedings against the three minors have been initiated under the Juvenile Justice Act.
Pre-Planned Nature of the Crime
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had planned the crime in advance. They used a mobile phone to place the food order with the specific intention of luring a delivery executive to the spot. After assaulting the victim, they stole his motorcycle with plans to sell it and share the proceeds among themselves. Fortunately, the police apprehended them before they could dispose of the vehicle.
An officer involved in the case stated: "The accused admitted to planning the crime meticulously. Their motive was to target a delivery executive for financial gain, but timely police action prevented them from profiting from their illegal activities."
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by gig economy workers and underscores the importance of enhanced safety measures for delivery personnel operating during late-night hours.
