Gurugram Deploys 5,400 Police for New Year's Eve, Warns of Strict Action
Gurugram deploys 5,400 police for New Year's Eve

Gurugram Police has initiated a massive security operation involving over 5,400 personnel to ensure safe and smooth New Year's Eve celebrations across the district. Officials announced the deployment on Tuesday, December 31, 2025, warning of stringent measures against violations, particularly drunk driving.

Comprehensive Security Blanket Across City

The security apparatus extends far beyond regular police forces. Counter-assault teams, police riders, PCR (Police Control Room) vans, cranes, fire brigade units, and ambulance teams have been strategically stationed at key locations, all equipped with necessary safety gear. This multi-agency approach aims to handle any eventuality during the festivities.

Heightened security is specifically focused on major celebration hotspots. These include MG Road, Cyber Hub, Golf Course Road, DLF Phase 1, and the Sector 29 market. Additional forces have also been deployed at Galleria Market, South Point Mall, Good Earth Mall, Bristol Chowk, and IFFCO Chowk to manage crowds and prevent incidents.

Strict Enforcement Against Drunk Driving

In a significant move, the police have issued formal notices to all pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants, and hotels under Section 168 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). These notices explicitly direct establishment operators not to allow intoxicated patrons to drive. The responsibility for safely transporting drunk customers home now legally rests with the concerned establishment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan stated that special teams will conduct city-wide checks. He reminded citizens that the penalty for drunk driving under the amended Motor Vehicles Act is Rs 10,000, along with suspension of the driving licence for three months. "Commuters are advised not to drive under the influence of alcohol," DCP Mohan emphasized.

Traffic Management and Parking Plans

To manage the expected vehicular surge, Gurugram Police has established an extensive network of checkpoints. This includes 10 interstate checkpoints and 68 special checkpoints within the city—32 in the east zone, 21 in the west zone, eight in the south zone, and seven in the Manesar zone. Special traffic police teams have been assigned to prevent congestion.

With special events scheduled at 22 major locations and celebrations at numerous other venues, parking has been a key concern. Vehicles belonging to partygoers will not be permitted on MG Road. Instead, police have earmarked 10 designated parking locations near event venues. These include:

  • Leisure Valley
  • Areas opposite the Westin Hotel
  • Cyber Hub parking
  • Areas opposite and behind KOD
  • Near the Uber office in Sector 29
  • HUDA Gymkhana
  • Machan parking
  • HUDA ground parking
  • Taxi parking area in Sector 29

Parking on roads will be strictly prohibited, and illegally parked vehicles will be towed away.

Gurugram Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora assured that police teams led by DCP- and ACP-rank officers will personally monitor sensitive areas. "We are keeping a close watch to ensure safety, security, and smooth celebrations. Any attempt to disturb law and order or indulge in hooliganism will be dealt with strictly," Commissioner Arora stated, signaling a zero-tolerance approach for the night.
