Guwahati Police Nab Man Accused of Duping Woman with Fake Tantrik Rituals
In a significant crackdown on fraudulent activities, the Guwahati police arrested a man on Monday night for allegedly deceiving a woman by promising to resolve her personal problems through tantrik rituals. According to the officer-in-charge (OC) of Basistha Police Station, the accused has been identified as Faruk Ojha.
Details of the Fraudulent Incident
The OC reported that Ojha is accused of duping a woman residing in the Sankardev Nagar area of Guwahati. The incident occurred on February 11, when Ojha performed a fake puja, purportedly to solve the woman's issues, and subsequently stole her gold ornaments. Following a thorough investigation, police apprehended Ojha in connection with this crime.
Recovery of Evidence and Arrest of Accomplice
During the arrest, police recovered substantial evidence, including a motorcycle, fake certificates, three mobile phones, and various items of clothing. Additionally, gold jewellery and cash amounting to Rs 57,420 were seized from Ojha's possession. The investigation further led to the arrest of another individual, Santosh Kumar Prasad, who hails from the Kheroni area in Assam's Karbi Anglong district. Prasad was implicated for receiving the stolen jewellery from Ojha.
Legal Actions and Public Advisory
Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act against the accused. In light of this incident, police have issued a strong advisory to citizens, urging them to remain vigilant against such fraudulent schemes. They encourage the public to report any suspicious activities by calling the emergency number 112 to help prevent similar crimes in the future.
