Major Anti-Drug Operation in Hazaribag Destroys 100 Acres of Illegal Poppy
In a significant joint operation, police and forest department officials in Hazaribag district have successfully destroyed illegal poppy cultivation spread over nearly 100 acres of land. The operation was conducted on Thursday in the Chouparan police station area, marking a substantial blow to illicit drug cultivation activities in the region.
Tip-Off Leads to Discovery in Anjan Village
Acting on specific intelligence, a coordinated team from both departments raided Anjan village, where they discovered poppy crops illegally grown across multiple locations. The authorities immediately destroyed the standing crop on the spot to prevent any potential harvesting. During the operation, officials also seized and destroyed fourteen delivery pipes that were being used for irrigation of the illegal plantation.
Drones Deployed for Surveillance in Difficult Terrain
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ajit Kumar Vimal revealed that drones are being actively utilized to identify poppy cultivation in challenging and forested terrain. "This technological approach helps us detect hidden plantations that would otherwise be difficult to spot through conventional methods," Vimal explained. The use of aerial surveillance represents a modern strategy in combating drug cultivation in remote areas.
Investigation and Legal Action Underway
Police authorities confirmed that verification of identities of those involved in the illegal cultivation is currently in progress. "Cases will be registered against all individuals involved in this illicit activity, and appropriate legal action will be initiated," stated SDPO Vimal. The comprehensive operation demonstrates the authorities' commitment to eradicating drug-related activities from the region.
The destruction of such a substantial area of poppy cultivation represents one of the larger anti-drug operations in recent times for the Hazaribag region. Authorities have emphasized their continued vigilance against illegal drug cultivation and trafficking activities across the district.
