Fatal Highway Accident in Nandurbar Claims Driver's Life

A tragic road accident on the Dhule-Surat highway in Nandurbar district resulted in the death of a driver and left another individual with severe injuries on Monday evening. The incident occurred when a speeding car lost control and rolled over multiple times, causing catastrophic damage to the vehicle and its occupants.

Details of the Crash and Immediate Aftermath

According to Assistant Inspector Narendra Sable from the Visarwadi police station, the driver, identified as 29-year-old Akash Patil from Songadh, Gujarat, was operating the vehicle at high speed when he apparently lost control. The car then overturned several times, grievously injuring both Patil and his companion. Passersby at the scene quickly intervened, transporting the injured men to a local hospital for initial medical attention.

Due to their origins in Songadh, the injured were subsequently shifted to a hospital in that Gujarat city for further treatment. Despite medical efforts, Akash Patil succumbed to his injuries while undergoing care. His companion remains hospitalized with serious wounds, and authorities are monitoring his condition closely.

Police Investigation Reveals Additional Violations

During their examination of the accident scene and vehicle, police officers made a startling discovery. Several boxes of country-made liquor were found inside the car without the necessary permissions or authority. This finding has significantly expanded the scope of the investigation beyond the traffic accident itself.

Assistant Inspector Sable confirmed that multiple charges have been filed in connection with the incident. The driver has been charged under BNS section 281 for rash driving in a public place, sections 125(A) and 9B for reckless driving, section 65(E) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act for illegal possession of liquor, and section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act for dangerous driving.

Legal Proceedings and Future Actions

With the confirmation of the driver's death, the legal framework surrounding the case is evolving. The police have indicated that additional sections will be added to the case once they receive the necessary documentation from the hospital. This procedural step is standard in fatal accident investigations where charges may be upgraded or expanded based on the outcome.

The incident highlights several critical issues on Maharashtra's highways, including speeding violations, dangerous driving practices, and the illegal transportation of alcohol. Authorities are using this case to emphasize the importance of road safety regulations and the severe consequences of violating multiple laws simultaneously.

This tragic event serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of adhering to traffic laws and regulations designed to protect all road users.
