In a brazen daylight burglary that has sent shockwaves through the community, thieves targeted the residence of a grocery store owner in Hyderabad's Bommaraspet area on Thursday. The incident, falling under the jurisdiction of the Shamirpet police station, resulted in the theft of a significant amount of gold and cash.
Details of the Bommaraspet Burglary
The victim, identified as K Ramesh, a local grocery store proprietor, returned to his home around 8 PM on Thursday to discover a scene of disarray. Upon arrival, he found that the door latch had been forcibly broken, indicating a forced entry by the perpetrators.
Stolen Valuables and Family Account
According to statements from the family, the burglars ransacked the house, specifically targeting almirahs. They made off with approximately 20 tolas of gold jewelry and Rs 2 lakh in cash, amounting to a substantial financial loss for the Ramesh household.
Nageshwar Rao, the son of K Ramesh, provided further insight. He resides with his own family in Secunderabad but frequently visits his parents in Bommaraspet. Rao recounted that on the day of the incident, his mother had stepped out to run errands, while his father was at his grocery store during the afternoon hours. This left the house unattended, creating an opportunity for the criminals.
Police Investigation and Response
Acting swiftly on the family's complaint, officers from the Shamirpet police station rushed to the crime scene. A specialized clues team was deployed to conduct a thorough forensic examination.
Evidence Collection and Leads
The investigation has involved multiple steps:
- Collection of fingerprints from the point of entry and the ransacked almirahs.
- Gathering of CCTV footage from various locations in the vicinity of the victim's house to trace the movements of suspicious individuals.
A Shamirpet police official stated, "We have some promising leads about the accused. Our team has launched an intensive manhunt to apprehend the offenders and recover the stolen property." This indicates that the police are actively pursuing specific clues in the case.
Legal Action and Charges Filed
In response to the burglary, the Shamirpet police have registered a formal case. The charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which replaced the Indian Penal Code.
The specific sections invoked are:
- Section 331(4): Pertaining to lurking house-trespass or housebreaking by night with the intent to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment.
- Section 305: Addressing theft in a dwelling house, place of worship, or means of transportation.
This legal framework underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the break-in, especially given its occurrence in a residential dwelling.
The incident has raised concerns about security in the Bommaraspet locality, prompting residents to call for increased police vigilance. As the investigation continues, the community awaits updates on the arrest of the culprits and the recovery of the stolen gold and cash.
