Soumya had been on life support at NIMS for several days following the brutal attack. Hospital authorities confirmed that despite continuous medical attention and best efforts from the medical team, her condition could not be stabilized. Doctors reported that her blood pressure had plummeted to dangerously low levels, requiring high doses of medication to sustain vital functions.

The tragedy unfolded when an excise team conducting routine vehicle checks intercepted a car suspected of transporting ganja. As Constable Soumya positioned herself in front of the vehicle to prevent its escape, the driver suddenly accelerated, mowing her down in a callous act of violence.
She was immediately rushed to a local hospital where emergency surgery was performed. Doctors had to remove her spleen and one kidney during the initial procedure due to the severity of her injuries. The following day, she was transferred to NIMS for advanced treatment capabilities.
