Hyderabad Man Arrested for Fake Number Plate to Evade Fines

The Banjara Hills police in Hyderabad have arrested a 23-year-old private employee for allegedly using a fake vehicle number plate to evade traffic challans and mislead law enforcement agencies. The accused, identified as Karthika Jaya Kumar, a resident of Serilingampally, was taken into custody after the Hyderabad traffic police detected the fraudulent activity during routine enforcement checks and subsequently alerted the Banjara Hills police.

Details of the Fraud

According to investigators, Karthika Jaya Kumar affixed a fake registration number on his motorcycle instead of using its actual temporary registration number. The fraudulent number plate originally belonged to a scooter owned by a woman residing in Manikonda. As a result, all traffic challans generated for violations committed by the accused were incorrectly issued against the actual scooter owner, causing her undue harassment.

Legal Action Taken

Based on the findings, the Banjara Hills police registered a case against the accused under Section 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 130 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The accused has been issued a notice as per legal procedures, and further investigation is underway.
