Hyderabad: Pregnant Woman Brutally Murdered by Ex-Husband in Vanasthalipuram
In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Hyderabad, a three-month pregnant woman was brutally hacked to death inside her residence in Vanasthalipuram on Wednesday. The alleged perpetrator, identified as her ex-husband, is reported to have carried out the attack due to his resentment over her recent remarriage.
Details of the Gruesome Attack
The victim, Sunitha (29), a software professional, was working from home when the tragedy unfolded. According to Vanasthalipuram police, the accused, Devarakonda Mahesh, forcibly entered her fourth-floor apartment at Green City Colony around noon. He proceeded directly to the room where Sunitha was present and locked the door from the inside.
Inspector T Mahesh of Vanasthalipuram police station provided chilling details: "Mahesh was carrying a bag containing two knives, a bottle of petrol, and a chainsaw. He engaged in a heated argument with Sunitha and, within minutes, launched a vicious attack, stabbing her multiple times on various parts of her body, including her head."
Family Members Discover the Horrific Scene
Upon hearing Sunitha's desperate screams, other family members rushed to her room, only to find her lying on the floor in a pool of blood. By that time, the accused had barricaded himself inside the washroom. At the moment of the attack, Sunitha's mother-in-law was on the terrace drying clothes, while her brother-in-law was occupied in another room.
Police officers had to forcibly break open the bathroom door to apprehend Mahesh, who has since been charged with murder. The investigation revealed that the accused had meticulously planned the assault, bringing multiple weapons to the scene.
Background of the Troubled Relationship
Family members disclosed to investigators that Sunitha and Mahesh, both software professionals, had married in 2022 and subsequently relocated to Canada. However, their relationship was strained from the outset, leading Sunitha to file for divorce in 2024 and return to India.
In early 2025, Sunitha embarked on a new chapter of her life by marrying another man and settling in Vanasthalipuram. This development reportedly infuriated Mahesh, who had returned to India following his mother's passing last year.
Legal Complications and Motive for the Crime
Deputy Commissioner of Police B Anuradha of L B Nagar explained the legal backdrop: "When Mahesh arrived in India, he was intercepted at the airport because a Look Out Circular (LOC) had been issued against him in connection with a pending domestic violence case filed by Sunitha. His passport was seized as a result."
The DCP further elaborated on the motive: "Since the LOC prevented him from returning to Canada, Mahesh became increasingly frustrated. He harbored deep-seated resentment against Sunitha for remarrying and sought revenge, which tragically culminated in this horrific act of violence."
This case highlights the severe consequences of domestic disputes and the critical importance of protective legal measures. The Hyderabad police have registered a murder case against Mahesh, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover all aspects of this tragic event.
