Indian Travelers Stranded in UAE Airports Amid Israel-Iran Tensions

Passengers from India have been left stranded at Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports since February 28, 2024, as escalating tensions between Israel and Iran disrupt air travel. The situation has sparked growing concerns, with many travelers, including families with children and elderly members, urgently appealing to airlines via social media for priority assistance in returning to India.

Urgent Appeals and Social Media Outcry

Jayesh Thakkar, a passenger from Nashik stranded at Dubai airport for three days as of Wednesday, took to social media platform X to voice his distress. He reported receiving no response from the helpline number provided by the Embassy of India in Dubai. Thakkar attempted to book flights back to Mumbai from Dubai, but they were cancelled six to seven hours before departure.

"We are even unable to book the next flights because our funds are stuck... It is an emergency for me as my father is a heart patient, and I can't give more stress to them here in another country... We are tourists here... We came here for the good experience, and we want to go out from here with the good experience...," Thakkar shared on X.

Families and Children Affected

Anubha Singh, whose family was stranded at Dubai airport, wrote to Emirates Airlines on X, stating, "My family has been stranded in Dubai since Feb 28. They were on their way to Jaipur. They did not receive any updates yet. I don't know what is happening, please do something.... They have 3 small kids with them." Singh added that her family filled out a form to get on a flight to Ahmedabad but was not selected.

Broader Travel Disruptions

Aseem Agrawal, a relative of a passenger, said, "My wife is travelling from Chicago to Jaipur via Abu Dhabi and was stuck at Abu Dhabi since Feb 28. Request to include her name on any flight to New Delhi if EY326 to Jaipur is not on the priority list..." This highlights the widespread impact on travelers with connecting flights through the UAE.

The escalating tensions between Israel and Iran have led to significant flight cancellations and delays, leaving many Indian tourists and travelers in limbo. As the situation unfolds, passengers continue to seek urgent assistance from airlines and authorities to navigate these travel disruptions and return home safely.
