In a significant crackdown on the illegal drug trade, the Khajrana police in Indore apprehended a 29-year-old man and confiscated a large stash of banned psychotropic tablets during a late-night operation. The police team also seized the suspect's scooter as part of the raid.
Midnight Operation Leads to Arrest
Acting on a confidential tip-off about suspicious activities, a special team from the Khajrana police station was deployed to monitor the area. Their vigilance paid off near Talai, in front of Bada Madrassa, where they spotted an individual standing next to a two-wheeler.
The man, identified as Sadan Lahori, attempted to flee upon seeing the police but was quickly surrounded and detained. Lahori, a resident of Khajrani Kakad, works as a painter and has studied up to Class 12.
Contraband and Interrogation Details
A subsequent search of the accused yielded 590 alprazolam tablets, a psychotropic substance strictly prohibited under the law. Lahori could not produce any valid license or documentation to justify possession of the tablets.
The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is over Rs 1,700, while the scooter taken from his possession is valued at approximately Rs 60,000. This brings the total value of the confiscated property to around Rs 61,700.
During questioning, the accused made a startling confession. He admitted to being addicted to alprazolam tablets himself. To fund his habit, he revealed a cross-state smuggling operation. He would procure the tablets at lower rates from his in-laws' place in Tonk district, Rajasthan, and then sell them at a premium to other addicts within Indore.
Legal Action and Case Registration
Following the arrest and recovery, the Khajrana police have registered a formal case against Sadan Lahori. The case has been filed under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Khajrana police station.
Station in-charge Manoj Sendhav confirmed the details of the operation, highlighting the police's continued efforts to combat the menace of illegal narcotics in the city. This arrest underscores the ongoing challenges of drug addiction and the illicit trade that fuels it.
