A man has been arrested in Indore for allegedly morphing photographs of a woman and her sister and mailing them along with threatening letters to the woman's relatives and neighbors. This disturbing incident occurred after his marriage proposal to her sister was rejected by the family, leading to a calculated campaign of harassment.
Complaint Filed at Banganga Police Station
The case came to light in July 2025 when the woman filed a formal complaint at the Banganga police station in Indore. She reported that an unknown individual was sending emails to her relatives and neighbors containing obscene content about her and her sister. These communications included morphed nude photographs and posters, causing significant mental distress and harassment to the victims.
An official release detailed that the complainant faced severe mental anguish due to these persistent incidents, which aimed to damage her reputation and that of her family.
Investigation and Identification of the Accused
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against an unknown accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities initiated an investigation, but initially, the perpetrator proved elusive, with no immediate leads despite continuous efforts to trace them.
Through sustained investigative work, the police eventually identified the accused as Ayush Agnihotri, a resident of Vaishali Nagar in Indore. This breakthrough came after meticulous scrutiny of digital and physical evidence related to the case.
Motive and Actions of the Accused
During interrogation, Ayush Agnihotri confessed that marriage talks had been underway between him and the complainant's sister. However, when the family refused his proposal, he decided to seek revenge. His motive was to tarnish the social image of the complainant and her family, ensuring that no one would establish marital relations with them in the future.
To execute this plan, he morphed photographs of the complainant and her sister, creating explicit and damaging images. He then sent these morphed photos through postal mail to the complainant's neighborhood and relatives' homes. Additionally, he put up posters around her sister's house in the local area and sent threatening letters to relatives via email, intensifying the harassment campaign.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The accused was arrested on Wednesday under crime number 918/2025. The case was officially registered at the Banganga police station under relevant sections of the BNS, the Information Technology (IT) Act, and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, indicating the serious nature of the offenses.
After his arrest, Ayush Agnihotri was produced before the court and subsequently sent on police remand for further questioning and investigation. This step underscores the commitment of law enforcement to address such cybercrimes and ensure justice for the victims.
