Indore Crime Branch Apprehends Notorious Drug Peddler with Significant Narcotics Haul
In a significant crackdown on the illicit narcotics trade, the Indore Crime Branch successfully arrested a repeat offender in possession of a substantial quantity of brown sugar near the railway goods yard in Laxmibai Nagar on Saturday. The operation, part of an ongoing surveillance initiative, led to the seizure of contraband valued at approximately Rs 11.5 lakh in the international market.
Dramatic Chase Leads to Arrest
According to police reports, the accused, identified as Chintu alias Chintti Verma, a resident of Bhagirathpura, attempted to flee upon spotting the police team. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya stated that the suspect was observed emerging from between parked goods trains, which immediately raised red flags. A brief but intense chase ensued, culminating in his detention by officers who swiftly surrounded him.
A subsequent search revealed 102.76 grams of brown sugar in his possession, along with a mobile phone. The meticulous operation underscores the police's commitment to disrupting drug networks in the city.
Criminal History and Modus Operandi
Investigations have uncovered that the accused has a extensive criminal background, with his name appearing in nine previous cases. Notably, five of these cases were registered under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, highlighting his persistent involvement in drug-related activities.
During preliminary questioning, Verma confessed to his illicit operations. He admitted to purchasing drugs at lower prices and selling them to addicts within the city at inflated rates, exploiting the demand to generate quick profits. This revelation sheds light on the predatory tactics employed by drug peddlers to fuel addiction cycles.
