Major Fire Erupts in Jaipur Apartment Building, Prompting Large-Scale Rescue Operation
A significant fire incident occurred in the Shyam Nagar area of Jaipur on Tuesday morning, causing widespread alarm and necessitating an extensive rescue operation. The blaze originated in a sixth-floor flat of a 10-storey residential building around 6:30 am, according to local police reports.
Immediate Evacuation and Panic Among Residents
The fire, which broke out in the flat belonging to a resident identified as Kamal, quickly intensified and spread, filling the entire building with dense, thick smoke. This sudden development triggered panic among the approximately 200 people residing in the apartment complex, who rushed out of their homes in a state of emergency.
Kamal and his family managed to escape safely after noticing the flames emerging from their flat. However, the rapid spread of the fire created a hazardous environment for other occupants.
Coordinated Rescue Efforts by Police and Fire Services
Police personnel from the Shyam Nagar police station arrived promptly at the scene and, in collaboration with residential security guards, initiated the evacuation of all families from the endangered building. Two fire brigade vehicles were deployed to combat the blaze, which was brought under control after approximately thirty minutes of intense firefighting efforts.
During the rescue operation, police officers broke glass panes on the fifth floor to facilitate smoke ventilation and assist in evacuating trapped residents. This strategic action helped clear escape routes and reduce smoke inhalation risks.
Critical Rescue of Stranded Families
In a particularly dramatic aspect of the operation, two families who had retreated to the building's terrace found themselves stranded as the fire progressed. These individuals were successfully rescued using a hydraulic fire brigade apparatus, which enabled their safe extraction from the rooftop.
Substantial Property Damage and Financial Loss
The affected flat and all household belongings within were completely destroyed by the fire, resulting in property losses estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees. The incident has highlighted fire safety concerns in multi-storey residential buildings and the importance of emergency preparedness.
Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire while assessing the structural integrity of the building following the extensive damage. Residents have been temporarily relocated as safety inspections proceed.
