Jaipur Hit-and-Run: Speeding Car Rams Cyclists, Two Dead, Several Injured in Midnight Tragedy
A shocking hit-and-run incident in Jaipur has left two workers dead and several others injured after a speeding car mowed down a group of cyclists in the early hours of Wednesday. The tragic accident occurred shortly after midnight in the Vidyadhar Nagar area, sending shockwaves through the community and prompting swift police action.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police North Karan Sharma, the accused driver has been identified as Amit Chauhan, a 25-year-old resident of Harmada. The incident unfolded around 12:05 am when police at the Vidyadhar Nagar police station received information about a car being driven at high speed near the service lane. The vehicle reportedly ran over several cyclists before fleeing the scene, leaving behind a trail of devastation.
SHO Himmat Singh provided further details, stating that one man died on the spot, while three to four others sustained critical injuries. When police teams arrived at the scene, they found:
- Four damaged bicycles scattered across the road
- Blood splattered extensively on the pavement
- A broken number plate bearing registration number RJ-14 CG 6812
Victims and Immediate Response
The deceased have been identified as Devdat Behera alias Tappu (31) and Amulya Patra (55), both natives of Odisha who were living as tenants in Jalupura. The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, where one of them later succumbed to his injuries during medical care.
Police launched a comprehensive investigation based on the evidence recovered from the accident site. The broken number plate proved crucial in tracing the vehicle owner, identified as Ashok Kumar Tak, a resident of Malviya Nagar. This lead eventually helped authorities track down and arrest the driver, Amit Chauhan.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
A formal case has been registered in connection with the hit-and-run, and special police teams were formed specifically to track down the suspect. SHO Himmat Singh revealed that the accused works as a photographer by profession. As part of standard investigative procedures, Chauhan was sent for a medical examination to determine whether he was under the influence of any intoxicant while operating the vehicle.
