Jaipur Police Crack Down on Inter-State Jewellery Snatching Racket
In a significant breakthrough, the Jaipur City Police on Tuesday successfully dismantled an inter-state criminal gang that specialized in stealing and snatching jewellery from women during crowded religious gatherings. Law enforcement officials confirmed the arrest of seven women in connection with the organized theft operation.
Details of the Arrested Suspects
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma identified the apprehended women as Neelam alias Nitika (37), Vidha alias Shakuntala (67), Rani alias Bachhila (64), Bijli (42), Nisha (35), Sanjota (45), and Chitra (62). All suspects are residents of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, indicating the gang's cross-border operational reach. During the arrest, police recovered a gold locket and a broken chain from their possession, providing tangible evidence of their criminal activities.
Operation and Surveillance Efforts
The gang came under police scrutiny following specific intelligence inputs that a group of women chain-snatchers had arrived in Jaipur during a Kalash Yatra held on Sunday in the Mansarovar area. This religious procession attracted approximately 10,000–12,000 devotees, creating the crowded environment the gang typically exploited.
Acting swiftly on this information, police authorities formed a dedicated team under the supervision of senior officers. Intensive surveillance and search operations were launched throughout the Mansarovar locality, leading to the apprehension of the seven suspects and the recovery of stolen jewellery items.
Modus Operandi and Previous Incidents
Investigators revealed that the gang systematically targeted crowded religious gatherings, particularly those with high female attendance. Their strategy involved blending into the crowd, committing thefts, and quickly fleeing the scene to avoid detection. Police officials stated that the accused have been involved in similar incidents across Rajasthan and other states, demonstrating a pattern of organized crime.
The gang members allegedly conceal their true identities by providing false names and addresses, complicating verification processes. Authorities confirmed that verification of their personal details is currently underway to establish their complete criminal backgrounds.
Investigators further disclosed that the gang had previously executed a similar theft during a religious event in Dausa district, highlighting their established criminal track record. The police are continuing their investigation to identify any remaining gang members and trace additional cases linked to their activities.
Preventive Measures and Future Plans
According to police statements, the gang was planning to carry out additional thefts during a Bhagwat Katha event scheduled in the same area. The timely intervention by law enforcement prevented further criminal activities and protected potential victims.
