Jaipur Traffic Police to Conduct Door-to-Door Visits for Unpaid Challans

Residents of Jaipur who have not cleared their traffic challans should brace for a knock at their door from traffic officials of the Jaipur Commissionerate. In a stringent move, the traffic department has compiled a list of defaulters and resolved to undertake door-to-door visits to recover unpaid traffic fines from those who have failed to settle their dues.

Massive List of Defaulters Identified

Speaking to TOI, DCP Traffic Sumeet Meharda revealed that the department has prepared a list of nearly 8 lakh defaulters. These individuals were booked under various sections of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act between January 1, 2025, and January 31, 2026. The department has meticulously categorized these defaulters into several groups based on the severity and frequency of their violations.

Targeted Home Visits for High-Risk Offenders

For the topmost category of defaulters, traffic officials will be dispatched for home visits to serve notices under specific legal sections. This category includes offenders defaulting on substantial amounts, repeat violators of dangerous traffic norms, and owners of high-end luxury cars. Meharda emphasized that due to the impracticality of visiting all defaulters, this initiative will be restricted to approximately 1,200 to 1,500 individuals in the highest-risk bracket.

Legal Actions and FIRs Registered

In addition to the door-to-door campaign, the traffic department has already registered 16 First Information Reports (FIRs). These FIRs have been filed under sections 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with relevant sections of the MV Act 1988, against individuals who have yet to clear their pending challans. This legal action underscores the department's commitment to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring accountability.

Urgent Appeal to Drivers and Owners

Meharda issued a stern warning to all drivers and vehicle owners, urging them to settle their pending challans promptly to avoid legal repercussions and inconvenience. He stated, "After violating traffic norms, you just cannot escape without paying the fines." The department's proactive measures aim to deter future violations and promote road safety by ensuring that penalties are duly paid.

This crackdown highlights the Jaipur traffic police's intensified efforts to curb traffic violations and recover outstanding fines, signaling a zero-tolerance approach towards non-compliance with traffic regulations.
