Jamnagar Police Crack Down on Drug Trade with Major Heroin Seizure

In a significant operation under the "No Drugs in Jamnagar" campaign, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jamnagar police has made a major breakthrough. On Friday, authorities arrested four individuals and confiscated heroin with an estimated street value of Rs 83.6 lakh during a targeted raid near Moti Khavdi village.

Intelligence-Led Operation on Jamnagar–Khambhaliya Highway

The action unfolded when SOG teams, while patrolling rural areas of Jamnagar district, received specific intelligence. Police officials reported that information indicated four persons from Punjab were staying at a hotel in Moti Khavdi with a consignment of narcotics. Acting swiftly on this tip, law enforcement raided Room 202 of the hotel, located along the Jamnagar–Khambhaliya highway.

Substantial Contraband and Evidence Recovered

During the thorough search of the premises, police allegedly discovered:

  • 418 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 83.6 lakh in the illicit market.
  • A quantity of cash, the exact amount of which is under investigation.
  • Seven mobile phones, potentially used for communication within the drug network.
  • A weighing scale, indicative of preparation for distribution.

All four occupants present in the room were immediately taken into custody without incident.

Identities of the Accused and Legal Proceedings

The arrested individuals have been identified as residents of Punjab:

  1. Vishal Singh Mattu
  2. Harpreet Singh Majvi
  3. Bikramjeet Singh Majvi
  4. Jagdip Singh Khehra

A formal case has been registered at the Meghpar (Padana) police station. The charges are filed under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which pertain to the production, manufacture, possession, sale, purchase, transport, and conspiracy related to narcotic drugs.

Ongoing Investigation and Wider Implications

Police authorities have confirmed that further investigation is actively underway. The primary focus is to determine the source of the seized drugs and uncover any potential links to a broader narcotics network. Initial findings suggest that the heroin was intended for distribution in Jamnagar and the neighbouring Devbhumi Dwarka district, highlighting the regional threat posed by such operations.

This successful raid underscores the Jamnagar police's commitment to clamping down on the narcotics trade through proactive patrolling and intelligence-based actions. The "No Drugs in Jamnagar" campaign continues to target drug peddling activities, aiming to safeguard communities from the dangers of substance abuse.
