Jamshedpur DC Mandates Comprehensive Security and Infrastructure Overhaul for Ghaghidih Central Jail
In a decisive move to bolster prison security, East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi has issued a series of directives aimed at fortifying the Ghaghidih Central Jail in Jamshedpur. The measures include a request for round-the-clock deployment of Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) personnel and a thorough security audit of the facility.
Enhanced Security Protocols and Surveillance Review
During a high-level review meeting on Tuesday, DC Satyarthi instructed SSP Piyush Pandey to formally request the JAP headquarters for jawans to be stationed at the jail's watch tower, ensuring uninterrupted 24x7 vigilance. This step is part of a broader initiative to eliminate any security laxity within the prison premises.
Furthermore, the jail administration has been directed to conduct regular security audits. The status of existing CCTV cameras will be meticulously examined, and officials will physically assess whether additional surveillance devices, or "third-eye" systems, are necessary to enhance monitoring capabilities.
Infrastructure and Amenities Under Scrutiny
The review also highlighted significant infrastructure deficiencies that require immediate attention. Jail officials reported that approximately half of the 50 hand pumps are non-functional and in urgent need of repairs. DC Satyarthi emphasized the importance of expediting these repairs, instructing officials to:
- Prepare repair estimates without delay
- Secure technical clearances promptly
- Initiate ground-level work as soon as possible
In addition to hand pumps, a comprehensive assessment will be conducted on:
- Power lighting systems
- Drinking water facilities
- Toilet conditions
- Healthcare services
- Prisoner cell conditions
Corrective measures will be implemented based on the findings to improve overall amenities at the central prison.
Broader Regional Jail Facilities Reviewed
The meeting extended its focus beyond Ghaghidih Central Jail, addressing civic amenities and healthcare facilities at other correctional institutions in the region. Discussions encompassed the divisional jail in Sakchi and the sub-jail in Ghatsila, with necessary directions issued to ensure uniform standards of care and security across all facilities.
