J&K Police Announces Cash Reward to Combat Terrorism in Poonch
In a significant move to bolster public involvement in counter-terrorism operations, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have announced a financial incentive of Rs 5 lakh for any individual who provides credible and actionable intelligence concerning terrorist activities in the border district of Poonch. The announcement was made on Monday, November 17, 2025.
Confidentiality and Public Vigilance
Emphasizing the safety of citizens, the police have assured that the identity of any informer will be kept absolutely confidential. They have urged the general public to remain extra vigilant and to report any suspicious activities without delay. The police are specifically seeking information on individuals who are providing logistical support to terrorists, which includes supplying food, shelter, essential items, or financial assistance.
Furthermore, the public has been asked to report anyone maintaining communication with terrorist outfits, whether it involves passing sensitive information about security force movements, aiding in recruitment, or coordinating other activities that support terrorism.
Strategic Context and Official Statements
This initiative gains importance due to the challenging terrain of the Pir Panjal region, which includes dense forests and proximity to the Line of Control (LoC). Districts like Poonch and Rajouri have been hotspots for terrorist activities since 2021.
The police's announcement comes in the wake of recent security incidents, including the November 10 Red Fort blast in Delhi and the subsequent busting of a terror module linked to the incident by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Echoing the sentiment for public cooperation, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has called upon people to help eliminate terrorism. He stated that citizens must expose the 'enemies of peace' by providing information to the police and security agencies. This, he said, is crucial to neutralizing the entire terror ecosystem hidden within society and delivering a befitting reply to the evil intentions of the neighbouring country. He also urged people to stand against terror sympathizers, highlighting society's critical role in recognizing and reporting suspicious activities.
