Kanpur Biker's Body Recovered After 45-Hour Search in Shyampur Bamba Canal
In a tragic incident in Kanpur, the body of a 35-year-old biker named Anil was recovered on Sunday from the Shyampur Bamba canal in the Raniya area. The recovery followed an extensive search operation that lasted approximately 45 hours, involving multiple agencies and local divers.
Details of the Accident
Anil, a resident of Barra, was returning to Kanpur with three companions late on Friday night after attending a wedding ceremony in Gajner. As they approached the Shyampur Bamba area, the bright lights of an oncoming vehicle temporarily blinded Anil, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle. The bike crashed into a culvert, throwing Anil into the deep waters of the canal.
Pankaj Pandey, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, sustained injuries in the accident but managed to escape the water. He was treated for his injuries, while Anil remained missing, prompting immediate rescue efforts.
Rescue and Recovery Efforts
Upon receiving information about the accident, Shiv Narayan Singh, the in-charge of Raniya police station, arrived at the scene with a police force. Police personnel bravely jumped into the swollen canal in an attempt to rescue Anil, but the strong currents and depth of the water hindered their efforts.
The search operation continued over the weekend, with the police coordinating with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local divers. After nearly two days of relentless searching, Anil's body was finally recovered on Sunday. The body was then sent to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Community and Police Response
Shiv Narayan Singh confirmed the recovery of the body and stated that the police are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident. The incident has highlighted the dangers of driving on poorly lit roads and the risks associated with canal crossings in the area.
Local residents expressed shock and grief over the tragedy, calling for better safety measures along the canal and improved lighting on the roads to prevent similar accidents in the future.
This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety, especially during nighttime travel. The authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits, particularly in areas with water bodies and limited visibility.
