Kanpur Welding Worker Dies by Suicide: Police Recover Pistol, Investigate Motive
A 20-year-old welding worker allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself at his home in the Khyora police station area of Nawabganj, Kanpur, on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek, a resident of Khyora.
Discovery of the Tragic Incident
Abhishek's elder brother, Deepak, found his body when he returned home from work around 1 pm. Upon discovering the room locked from inside, Deepak broke open the door and found Abhishek lying on the bed in a pool of blood. He immediately informed the police, who rushed to the scene.
Abhishek was quickly taken to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The body was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police Investigation and Evidence Recovery
Senior police officials, including ADCP Central Archana Singh and ACP Colonelganj Amit Chaurasiya, along with Nawabganj police personnel, reached the spot to inspect the scene. During their investigation, police recovered a .315 bore pistol, a cartridge, and other crucial evidence from the room.
A bullet mark was found on the wall, and preliminary findings suggest that the bullet passed through the victim's head before striking the wall. The police have seized Abhishek's mobile phone for further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Family Background and Circumstances
According to family members, Abhishek lived with his father Ramavatar Nishad, who works as a loader driver, his brother Deepak, and his sister-in-law at their Khyora residence. His mother has been staying in Fatehpur village for the past year to look after agricultural fields.
Both Abhishek and Deepak worked as welding labourers. On the morning of the incident, Ramavatar and Deepak left for work, while Abhishek stayed at home. Deepak called Abhishek around 11 am and asked him to come to the shop, but Abhishek declined, stating he had some work to attend to.
Lack of Clear Motive and Ongoing Probe
Police questioned the family members, but no clear reason for the suicide could be ascertained at this stage. When asked about the pistol, Ramavatar denied any knowledge of the weapon. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining all possible angles to determine the motive behind this tragic event.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the need for greater mental health awareness and support systems for young workers in stressful occupations.
