Kanpur Woman Found Dead in Suspicious Incident, Husband Absconds

A tragic incident unfolded in Kanpur's Shatabdi Nagar Panki area where a 27-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Monday. The case has taken a dramatic turn as her husband fled the scene immediately after the victim's mother arrived and began questioning him about the cause of death, according to police statements made on Tuesday.

Details of the Deceased and Her Family

The deceased has been identified as Deepika Saini, who lived with her husband Shoeb Khan in a rented accommodation on the third floor of Ramganga Enclave in Shatabdi Nagar. The couple had entered into a love marriage in October 2025. Shoeb worked as a truck driver based in Ahmedabad, frequently traveling for his profession.

This marriage represented a second union for both individuals. Deepika had previously been divorced and had two children from her first marriage—Rudra and Anirudh. Police confirmed that four-year-old Rudra was present inside the house at the time of the incident, and investigators gathered preliminary information from the young child.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy

According to DCP West SM Qasim Abidi, neighbors reported that Shoeb had returned home on Sunday. The situation escalated on Monday afternoon when a heated argument erupted between the couple. Approximately two hours later, the house fell silent, raising concerns among those living nearby.

Neighbors then allegedly witnessed Shoeb forcefully pushing against the door, which prompted them to intervene. Upon entering the residence, they discovered Deepika lying unconscious on the bed, showing no signs of responsiveness.

Family Intervention and Husband's Escape

After being informed by neighbors, Deepika's mother Chitra—a resident of Barra-8—rushed to the spot along with other relatives. Police stated that discussions about informing law enforcement authorities began immediately, and it was at this point that Shoeb fled the scene, abandoning the situation entirely.

Police Investigation and Forensic Examination

A thorough investigation was launched with DCP West S.M. Qasim Abidi, ADCP Kapil Dev, and Panki police station in-charge Manoj Kumar Singh conducting a detailed spot inspection. A specialized forensic team was deployed to collect crucial evidence from the scene, meticulously documenting every potential clue.

During their examination, police discovered marks of strangulation on Deepika's neck, allegedly caused by a rope. However, authorities emphasized that the possibility of suicide was also being actively examined as part of their comprehensive investigation.

Conflicting Accounts and Ongoing Investigation

Some neighbors provided statements to police suggesting that Shoeb had broken open the door and pulled Deepika down from a noose in another room before placing her on the bed. DCP Abidi commented on the complexity of the case, stating, "In such circumstances, nothing can be said definitively at this stage."

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police indicated that the precise cause of death would become clearer after receiving the official report. Further legal action will be determined based on the formal complaint filed by the woman's mother, who has alleged dowry-related murder as the potential motive behind the tragedy.

Police Response and Search Operations

In response to the developing situation, authorities have formed three dedicated police teams specifically tasked with tracing the absconding husband. Additionally, the West Zone surveillance team has been placed on high alert to assist in locating the suspect and gathering further intelligence about his possible whereabouts.

The investigation continues as authorities work to unravel the exact circumstances surrounding this suspicious death while pursuing all available leads to apprehend the fleeing husband for questioning and potential legal proceedings.
