KSRTC Bus Collision in Venjaramoodu Claims Life of 56-Year-Old Man, Injures Four
A tragic road accident occurred in Venjaramoodu on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the death of a 56-year-old man and injuries to four others. The incident involved a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus that collided with a scooter, leading to fatal consequences.
Details of the Fatal Accident
The deceased has been identified as Jayachandran, a native of Konchira at Vempayam. According to police reports, the accident took place at Koppam around 4:30 PM. Jayachandran was traveling towards Vempayam on his scooter when the KSRTC bus, heading from the opposite direction towards Venjaramoodu, rammed into his vehicle. The impact was so severe that he died on the spot.
Following the initial collision, the bus reportedly lost control and crashed into a nearby bakery, exacerbating the situation. Four passengers on the bus sustained minor injuries in this secondary crash. They were promptly shifted to medical facilities for treatment—some to the Kanyakulangara government hospital and others to a private hospital in Venjaramoodu. Authorities have stated that their condition is stable, providing a slight relief amidst the tragedy.
Investigation and Suspected Causes
Venjaramoodu police have initiated an investigation into the accident, with preliminary findings suggesting that excessive speed of the bus could have been a contributing factor. To gather more evidence, officials plan to examine CCTV footage from the area. This step is crucial in determining the exact sequence of events and identifying any lapses in road safety protocols.
In a separate but related incident, another fatal accident involving a KSRTC bus was reported in Ernakulam. A 19-year-old youth, identified as Arjun of Chulissery in Thrissur, was killed after a KSRTC bus hit his bike at SN Junction in Tripunithura. Arjun was a first-year student of Panangad Fisheries College, adding a layer of sorrow to the community. This underscores ongoing concerns about road safety and bus operations in Kerala.
Broader Implications for Road Safety
These back-to-back accidents highlight critical issues in traffic management and vehicle safety standards. The incidents call for a thorough review of KSRTC bus driving practices and speed regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future. Authorities are urged to implement stricter measures to ensure the safety of all road users.
