The deceased has been identified as Arushi, a 20-year-old resident of Pehowa who was pursuing her studies at Kurukshetra University. The other occupant of the vehicle, Varun Singla, aged 21 and also from Pehowa, is feared to have drowned in the calamity. Varun was reportedly studying in Chandigarh, adding to the sorrow of the educational communities in both cities.

According to preliminary reports from eyewitnesses, the car was being driven by Varun Singla at a high speed when it tragically veered off and fell into the canal. Jyotisar police post in-charge Sandeep Kumar provided chilling details of the sequence of events. "As the car fell into the canal, the driver attempted to escape but was swept away by the strong current of the water," stated Kumar. "The young woman was found trapped inside the vehicle itself."
The police and professional divers swiftly reached the accident site upon receiving the alert and initiated an intensive search operation. The body of Arushi was recovered from the submerged car and has been transferred to a hospital for post-mortem examination, which is scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday.
