Kushinagar Police Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Chinese Manjha
In a decisive move to curb the menace of hazardous kite-flying threads, the Kushinagar police launched a sweeping district-wide enforcement and awareness campaign on Sunday. The initiative, directed by Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar, targets the illegal sale, storage, and use of Chinese manjha across all police station jurisdictions.
Comprehensive Drive Across Markets and Shops
Police teams conducted thorough inspections in markets, kite seller outlets, general stores, and other related establishments. During the drive, officers actively engaged with shopkeepers and the public, emphasizing that the production, sale, storage, transport, and use of Chinese manjha—including synthetic, glass-coated, and metallic varieties—is strictly prohibited. This ban is enforced under state government directives and orders from the Allahabad High Court.
Heightened Enforcement and Public Warnings
To ensure strict compliance, authorities have implemented regular patrolling and surprise checks throughout the district. Officials highlighted that the Uttar Pradesh government has recently escalated penalties, declaring that any death caused by manjha will be treated as murder. Police warned that Chinese manjha poses a severe threat not only to kite flyers but also to commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders, as the sharp threads can cause critical injuries and even fatalities.
Broader Impacts and Legal Consequences
The banned threads are also responsible for extensive harm to wildlife, causing large-scale injuries to birds, and frequently disrupting power supply lines. Officials stated that swift legal action will be taken against violators, with cases registered under relevant sections of the law. Police have appealed to residents to cooperate with the drive by reporting any instances of illegal sale, storage, or use of Chinese manjha, reinforcing community involvement in maintaining public safety.
