Land Compensation Dispute Turns Deadly in Greater Noida
A tragic incident unfolded in the Rabupura police station area of Greater Noida, where a 32-year-old man was allegedly murdered following a bitter family dispute over the distribution of Rs 28 lakh in land compensation. The victim, identified as Sukhdev Sharma, was found dead in a sugarcane field in Kalupura village on Sunday, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Roots of the Conflict
The conflict stemmed from the acquisition of approximately three-quarters of a bigha of family land for a development project. The father, Suresh Chand Sharma, received Rs 28 lakh in compensation and distributed it among his sons. However, tensions escalated when Harkesh, Sukhdev's married brother, was given an additional Rs 3 lakh, leading to dissatisfaction and demands for the entire amount.
According to family members, Harkesh repeatedly threatened Sukhdev to relinquish his share, resulting in frequent quarrels. The persistent hostility forced Sukhdev to relocate to Faridabad, where he began working for a private company. Despite his move, occasional visits to his family were marred by violent altercations between the brothers.
The Fatal Incident
Suresh Chand Sharma alleged that Harkesh had threatened to kill Sukhdev on multiple occasions. Earlier this month, Sukhdev returned home, and on February 17, he left in the morning to water the family farms but never returned. When he failed to come back by late night, the family initiated a search but could not locate him.
On Sunday, villagers discovered Sukhdev's body near a canal in a field and immediately alerted the police. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was attacked with a sharp weapon, with evidence pointing to his own brother's involvement in the murder.
Police Action and Family Allegations
Based on the father's complaint, the police registered a case against Harkesh, his son Himanshu, and his father-in-law Anil. On Monday, authorities took Harkesh's wife, Umesh, and her father, Anil, into custody. However, Harkesh and Himanshu remain absconding, prompting police teams to conduct raids in Haryana and nearby areas to trace them.
Officials at the Rabupura police station confirmed that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused and piece together the full sequence of events. Meanwhile, the family has accused the police of negligence, adding another layer of controversy to this distressing case.
This incident highlights the severe consequences of familial disputes over financial matters, underscoring the need for effective conflict resolution and vigilant law enforcement to prevent such tragedies.
